Last updated 2 October 2026
This policy explains what Klari: Book Summaries & Audio("Klari") collects when you use the Android app and the web app, why we collect it and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account details: email address, and optionally your name and username. Your password is stored only as a hash.
- Security records: sign-in sessions, the time of your last sign-in and the IP address it came from.
- Documents you upload: PDF files you add so Klari can summarise and narrate them.
- Content you create: highlights, notes, questions and conversations with Ask Klari, research projects and learning programs.
- App activity: reading progress and which summaries you opened, used to show your progress and resume where you left off.
Klari does not collect your location, contacts, photos or microphone audio, and it contains no advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
How we use it
- Create and secure your account
- Generate summaries, translations and audio for the books and documents you open or upload
- Answer the questions you ask about a book
- Save your progress, highlights and preferences across devices
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Service providers
To produce summaries, answers and narration, the text of the relevant book or document and the questions you ask are sent to OpenAI, which processes them on our behalf. Files are kept with our cloud storage provider. These providers act only on our instructions and receive no more than they need to deliver the feature.
Security
All data travels between your device and our servers over an encrypted HTTPS connection. On Android, your sign-in tokens are held in the device's secure storage.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and everything linked to it at any time, in the app or on the web. Deletion is immediate, and the last copies leave our rolling backups within 3 days.
Children
Klari is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes and contact
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top.
